Thermos windows
Why replace triple glazing (or double)?
Replacing thermos glass with triple or double glazing is a wise decision to improve the energy efficiency and thermal comfort of your home. Thermos glass, also known as insulating windows, plays an essential role in insulating your interior by preventing heat loss during the winter and maintaining a pleasant temperature in the summer. However, over time, thermos windows can lose their effectiveness due to wear, insulating gas leaks, or fogging between the panes. By opting for a triple or double glazing replacement, you benefit from better insulation, reduced heat loss, and thus optimize your energy consumption.
Replacing triple glazing (or double) offers a series of significant advantages. By opting for more efficient glazing, you reduce your reliance on heating and cooling systems, which translates into considerable energy savings on your bills. These improved glazing units also create a more effective barrier against drafts and outdoor air infiltration, providing optimal thermal comfort inside your home. In addition, triple glazing, in particular, is renowned for its excellent sound insulation, reducing unwanted external noise and providing increased peace of mind. Investing in a triple glazed (or double) replacement is therefore a sure way to improve the comfort of your home, reduce your carbon footprint, and save money in the long run.

What is the Thermos?
It is because this element of two or three panes of glass sealed together is installed in the frame of the window that its name is identified as follows: Thermos – double or triple glazing, thermal or sound insulating glass, glass reinforced with breakage or not…
Compared to a simple pane, the thermos improves the energy performance of the window. How?
Between the two or three layers of glass, a low-emissivity membrane and a filling gas are added.
A thermos window will remain efficient for 15 to 20 years depending on whether:
- It’s never broken,
- The thermal bridge does not deteriorate,
- The sealant remains effective,
- Seals age well,
- And that no fog forms between the two or three windows.
It is the fog that forms between the panes that testifies to the deterioration of your thermos window. This often corresponds to a loosening of the unit or one of the reasons mentioned above.
We can unpack the thermos.

If condensation is annoying (the transparency of the glass is reduced), the solidity of the window frame is not affected. Also remember that removing the fog does not change the energy efficiency of the Thermos.
To de-sleep a window, we practice two small holes drilled in the thermos: 1 outside and 1 inside. A special stripper is inserted to restore the glass to its original shine and then close the two holes.
This solution is only temporary…
A few months? A few years? And if it seems economical, it is recommended to consider the replacement of the thermos… Not necessarily overpriced…
Replacing thermos

Less expensive than replacing the window, the Installation of a new thermos has a real impact on the quality of your insulation, and therefore on the costs of heating in winter and air conditioning in summer.
The work consists of disposing of the tired thermos (the defective old double or triple glazing) and installing a new thermos made to measure in the workshop.
The window itself is not affected. The operation is quick and does not make any dirt in the house.
Some do-it-yourselfers try to replace and install the new thermos themselves.
Think twice, air or water infiltration is on the lookout for the slightest flaw. The use of the thermos presents a risk of breakage of the thermos. glazing bead or other elements of the frame.

Time degrades Thermos windows
La Fogging between two panes of glass and the accompanying stains are caused by the seal drying out and cracking. The seal is no longer airtight, Argon gas (or other) escapes, humidity is introduced, dust settles on the inside of the windows.
The uniqueness of the double-glazed thermos glass, which has been definitively damaged, must be reconstituted and renovated in order to regain its thermal resistance coefficient (usually R-2) and a new shine of its aesthetics.
The deterioration of a thermos window is often a red flag that requires an inspection of the other windows in the house. If the north windows are the most exposed to premature deterioration, the alert should be used to check all the joints of the openings.
