In the construction and public works sector, the labourers are certified workers who are entrusted with various simple tasks and tasks in the context of construction or renovation. To ensure their comfort and safety at work, the CNESST (formerly CSST) or Occupational Health and Safety Commission has set out a number of safety rules for any high-rise intervention.
In this context, they can use equipment and tools such as lifting devices with pods, possibly ropers but also working methods specially designed to ensure the safety of workers.
This includes eliminating the risk of falling when working at heights with protective devices. Attention should also be paid to the risk of collapse and the dangers of intervening near power lines.
Employers also have a responsibility to inform workers about the risks inherent in their missions and to provide them with appropriate training. Any intervention must be supervised and safety standards must be scrupulously followed. Added to this is the obligation to set up a first aid service in case of emergency.
Safety rules for manoeuvring
Employers have obligations to their employees working on a construction site. These are notably communicated by CNESST, a Quebec organization in charge of occupational health and safety. In particular, employers are required to detect, control and, above all, eliminate any danger to workers in the context of their work at heights (windowcaulking, façade painter, window washing, etc.).
Organization and planning
Safety on construction sites requires good organization and planning of the work even before it is carried out. And we must not forget to create a risk prevention program. This program involves optimized management of workers’ health and safety by defining, controlling and correcting risks while informing and training workers. As for the latter, they must then know how to identify the risks and protect themselves accordingly. Finally, it should be noted that entities that do not comply with the regulations established by this institution are subject to sanctions:- Suspended work,
- Criminal prosecutions,
- Publication of their conviction…
