Within the construction industry, there are rigorous hiring criteria to meet. In particular, the workforce must justify skills that have been acquired through specific training or through recognized and certified experience in the field. These regulations are governed by the “Labour Relations, Vocational Training and Workforce Management Act in the Construction Industry,” commonly known as Act R-20.
Anyone who wishes to be recruited in the construction industry must therefore have the competency card. As for the Certificate of Occupancy Or CCO,this document concerns people who operate on construction sites as a specialized labourer or manoeuvre.
Role of the Quebec Construction Commission
The Quebec Construction Commission or CCQ is the entity authorized to grant a copy of the certificate of competency. This document is given to any new worker who wishes to work in the construction sector. Anyone over the age of 16 who expresses a desire to join a construction site has the opportunity to apply for this card.
The CCQ also recognises certificates of qualification issued by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity(MTESS).
Training and diploma in Quebec construction:
In accordance with Section 2.4.2.i., the ORC is accessible to individuals who have successfully attended (or are following) the General Knowledge course of the construction industry. At the same time, you must have passed the ” Health and general safety on construction sites ». The ORC will be awarded at the end of 30 hours of training with an organization recognized by ASP Construction.
Finally, it should be noted that the construction industry receives graduates as a priority. But it is still possible for non-graduates to obtain the certificate, especially when there is a labour shortage. In this case, the candidates concerned must meet certain demanding requirements.
